Our subdivision is brand new. Why did we test high?
New homes can test high. Radon comes from the soil, not the age of the home. Newer homes here usually have passive piping by law, which gives us a head start, but the pipe often needs a fan before the number comes down.
My neighbor's test was high. Should I worry about mine?
It tells you nothing certain either way. Levels vary home to home, even side by side. It is a good reason to test, not a reason to panic.
Our radon fan sounds different than it used to. Is that a problem?
A fan that becomes noticeably louder, rattles, grinds, hums, or sends vibration through the wall may be wearing out or may have another system issue that should be checked. A properly working radon fan is not perfectly silent. Most produce a soft, steady sound of air moving through the pipe. If the system becomes completely silent, check the U-tube manometer. If the columns are level with each other, the system is not showing suction. If the reading changes substantially from its usual mark or the fan sounds different, send Bill a clear photo of the fan and manometer.
